Welcome to BeerBards.ca

“Beer! Because no one ever said: ‘Hold my milk and watch this’.”

Hi. We’re Steve and Michael, a couple of Guelph-based foodies and certified beer geeks.

Nothing goes better with a great beer than an equally good story. We’re launching BeerBards to celebrate the best of both and, especially, the breweries and beers where the two come together.

We’ve spent much of the year checking out Ontario breweries, ale trails, festivals, education programs and beer conferences – all to deepen our knowledge of beer. Now we’re ready to share stories from around the province. Once or twice a week, we’ll bring you:

Brewery Stories – we interview the managers/owners and head brewers to share the story of the brewery and of the beers they brew.

Brewer Profiles – we profile the rock stars of the Ontario brewing scene, asking the head brewers what excites them most about what they brew.

Beer Recipes – we try out and share beer recipes that rock our plates.

Beer Profiles – we explore Ontario’s version of classic styles as well as what’s new or exciting in cans across the province.

Beer Travel – we visit beer trails, festivals and other places that attract beer lovers from near and far.

Beer News – we’ll look at the issues that impact breweries and beer lovers alike.

We hope you check us out. And please feel free to follow.

Steve and Michael

Hi, I’m Steve – a WSET and Prud’homme certified beverage enthusiast looking to build my sensory vocabulary with a focus on pairing. A musician and woodworker, I’m interested in learning how masters craft and present great beers – from the methods of brewing and storing to the impact of glassware’s particular design.

And I’m Michael – a Dubbel-loving raconteur, deeply interested in the story behind the crafting of great beer. WSET and Prud-homme certified foodie, I’m big on exploring the sensory experiences found in Ontario and elsewhere. I find an engaging story – especially about the people or inspiration behind a wonderful dish or beverage – adds one more layer of complexity to the experience.
